Participants 13th International Schnitger Organ Festival Alkmaar 2019 selected
Never before did so many organ students apply for the Alkmaar competition, which is being held from June 21st - 28th 2019. There were 45 applicants from 13 countries of which ten were to be selected this time. Organ Festival Holland is having the time of its life.
The members of the pre-selection jury were Tjeerd van der Ploeg, Frank van Wijk and Pieter van Dijk. After many hours of intensive listening they made their selection, without knowing who played on the recordings which were submitted. The following musicians were given the highest ratings: Victor Manuel Baena de la Torre (Spain), Oliver Brett (U.K.), Gerwin Hoekstra ( the Netherlands), Freddie James (U.K.), Heejin Kim (South Korea), António Pedrosa (Portugal), Owen Reid (USA), Daniel Seeger (Germany), Vittorio Vanini (Ital7) en Edith Yam (Australia).
As usual, they will be invited to the introduction weekend, where they can meet their fellow competitors and also play the three unique “competition”- organs. On Tuesday the 18th of June the festival board welcomes the candidates and lots will be drawn to determine the playing-order for the first round. They then have two days to prepare for the first round, which will kick off on Friday the 21st of June at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile the candidates have been informed of their selection. More information about them will follow in due course.
