werd in 1980 opgericht door Claus Bantzer, die toen organist en cantor was aan de St. Johannis in Hamburg-Harvestehude. Bantzer dirigeerde het koor tot 2017. Begin 2018 ging de rol van artistiek leider over op Edzard Burchards. In de loop der jaren won het koor diverse concoursen en verwierf het een uitstekende reputatie door zijn concertoptredens op het nationale en internationale podium. Kenmerkend voor het koor zijn de virtuositeit, de homogene klank en de zangstemmen van de geschoolde solisten. Het gevarieerde repertoire van de groep varieert van koormuziek uit de Renaissance tot 21e-eeuwse composities. Het Harvestehude kamerkoor staat bekend om zijn experimentele concerten waarin muziek wordt gecombineerd met andere kunstvormen. Themaconcerten brachten het koor samen met bekende artiesten als Christian Brückner, Christian Quadflieg, Rafik Schami, Hans Cre- mer, Lena Stolze, Victoria Trauttmansdorff en Christoph Bantzer, maar ook met de John Neumeier balletschool en lichtkunstenaar Michael Batz. CD-opnames die de artistieke waaier van het ensemble documenteren zijn verschenen onder de labels Arte Nova en Oehms Classics, onder andere. De opnames omvatten zowel geestelijke als wereldlijke composities uit vijf eeuwen. In de afgelopen jaren werd het Harvestehude kamerkoor uitgenodigd om op te treden in tal van steden in Duitsland, Europa (Italië, Frankrijk, Portugal, Rusland) en daarbuiten (Canada, Brazilië). In 2018 gaf het kamerkoor twee a capella concerten, evenals een debuutuitvoering van Ligeti-student Altug Ünlü's Requiem in de St. Michaelskerk in Hamburg. Het koor werd ook uitgenodigd door het Hamburgs Philharmonisch Staatsorchester om deel te nemen aan het nieuwjaarsconcert in de Elbphilharmonie, met de bijdrage van Mozarts Mis KV 220 onder leiding van Kent Nagano en twee motetten van Brahms onder leiding van Edzard Burchards.

The Harvestehude chamber choir was founded in 1980 by Claus Bantzer, who at the time was the organist and cantor at St. Johannis in Hamburg-Harvestehude. Bantzer conducted the choir until 2017. At the beginning of 2018, the role of artistic director passed to Edzard Burchards. Over the years, the choir has won various competitions and garnered an outstanding reputation through its busy concert appearances on the national and international stage. The choir?s signature features are its virtuosity, homogenous sound and the singing voices of its trained soloists. The group?s diverse repertoire ranges from Renaissance-era choral music to 21st-century compositions. The Harvestehude chamber choir is known for its experimental concerts which combine music with other art forms. Themed concerts have brought the choir together with celebrated artists including Christian Brückner, Christian Quadflieg, Rafik Schami, Hans Cremer, Lena Stolze, Victoria Trauttmansdorff and Christoph Bantzer, as well as with the John Neumeier ballet school and the light artist Michael Batz. CD recordings documenting the ensemble?s artistic range have appeared under the Arte Nova and Oehms Classics labels, among others. The recordings include sacred as well as secular compositions spanning five centuries. In recent years, the Harvestehude chamber choir has been invited to perform in numerous cities in Germany, Europe (Italy, France, Portugal, Russia) and beyond (Canada, Brazil). In 2018 the chamber choir gave two a cappella concerts as well as a debut performance of Ligeti student Altug Unlu's Requiem at St. Michael?s Church in Hamburg. The choir was also invited by the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra to take part in the New Year's Eve concert at the Elbphilharmonie, contributing Mozart´s Mass KV 220 under the direction of Kent Nagano and two motets of Brahms conducted by Edzard Burchards.
