Yves Rechsteiner (organ)

Yves Rechsteiner studeerde orgel en klavecimbel aan het Conservatorium van Genève en specialiseerde zich in forte-piano en basso continuo aan het Schola Cantorum van Basel. Prijswinnaar van verschillende internationale wedstrijden (Genève, Prag, Brugge...), werd hij in 1995 benoemd tot basso continuo docent en hoofd van de afdeling Oude Muziek aan het Conservatoire Supérieur van Lyon. Naast zijn activiteit als solist of begeleider maakt hij regelmatig arrangementen en transcripties voor het orgel. Zijn persoonlijke projecten en opnames bestrijken zowel het barokrepertoire als de symfonische muziek, waaronder samenwerkingen met traditionele of jazzspelers. Hij neemt Bach op pedaal-klavecimbel op in 2002, creëert het Alpbarock ensemble gewijd aan Zwitserse populaire muziek in 2005, en wordt bekroond met "Diapason d'or" in 2010 voor zijn Rameau arrangementen. Hij neemt zijn orgelversie van Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique op in 2013. Sinds 2014 toert hij wereldwijd met percussionist Henri-Charles Caget en gitarist Fred Maurin met Rock the Organ, een programma gewijd aan de muziek van Frank Zappa en andere progressieve rockbands. In hetzelfde jaar werd hij artistiek directeur van het festival Toulouse les Orgues, waar hij regelmatig projecten initieerde die pijporgel en elektronische of popmuziek combineerden. Vanaf 2021 toert hij met contorsionist Lise Pauton een show met zijn transcriptie voor orgel van Bachs Sonates en Partita voor viool. Hij heeft een beweegbaar groot orgel « L'Explorateur » bedacht dat vanaf 2022 in Frankrijk beschikbaar zal zijn voor concerten in zalen zonder orgel. 

Yves Rechsteiner studied organ and harpsichord at the Geneva Conservatory, and specialised on forte-piano and basso continuo at the Schola Cantorum of Basel. Pricewinner of several international competitions (Genève, Prag, Bruges?), he was appointed basso continuo teacher and head of the Early Music Department at the Conservatoire Supérieur of Lyon in 1995. Apart from his activity as a soloist or accompanist, he makes regular arrangements and transcriptions for the organ. His personal projects and recordings cover the baroque repertoire as well as the symphonic music, including collaborations with traditional or jazz players. He records Bach on pedal-harpsichord in 2002, creates Alpbarock ensemble dedicated to swiss popular music in 2005, and is awarded ?Diapason d?or? in 2010 for his Rameau arrangements. He records his organ version of Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique in 2013. Since 2014 he is touring world-wide with percussionist Henri-Charles Caget and the guitarist Fred Maurin with Rock the Organ, a program devoted to the music of Frank Zappa and other progressiv rock bands. The same year he became artistic director of the festival Toulouse les Orgues where he initiated regular projects mixing pipe organ and electronic or pop music. From 2021 he is touring with contorsionist Lise Pauton a show with his transcription for organ of Bach?s Sonatas and Partita for violin. He has conceived a movable grand organ « L?Explorateur » which will be available from 2022 in France for concerts in halls without organ.
